AOM warns FY28 will land "significantly below" expectations on a potential major-customer loss, the sole profit red flag in an otherwise in-line UK tape.
What UK Plc said today
The lone negative signal came from AOM, which flagged a potential non-renewal by a major customer and guided FY28 revenue and adjusted EBITDA "significantly below market expectations" despite H1 FY27 revenue of £25.3m (+21%). Separately, BEM disclosed a financing suspension with the board warning it "may have no alternative but to take measures to protect creditors which may include the appointment of administrators" — a de facto distress signal.
Against that, the dominant tone was in-line to ahead. SDG delivered a clean beat on operating leverage: H1 revenue £51.4m (+6%), adjusted EPS +49% to 3.32p, net cash £10.4m, inventories down 17%, and a post-period 10-year worldwide Dunelm licensing agreement for Designers Guild. DTC revenue more than doubled to £1.6m (+137%). Full-year guidance reaffirmed (PBT £6.5m, revenue £102m).
Trading updates clustered on reaffirmed guidance with constructive demand: ADVT double-digit H1 revenue and EBITDA growth to £28.5m; THRU held FY27 at £8m on a strong backlog; VP. flagged H2 outperformance from AMP8 water activity and electricity transmission; HAS filed Q1 but content was not in the wrapper.
Two reaffirmed-and-tilting-ahead: RFX (Ramsdens) guided FY26 PBT to £32m-£35m with purchase volumes "strong, supported by both the high gold price" and increased marketing; AEP cited Indonesia's B50 biodiesel rollout and firm CPO prices supporting an ahead stance on 9m production.
Capital actions were a mixed bag. PTSB received a possible €3.20/share cash offer from Axis Capital — a 7.7% premium to BAWAG's €2.97 scheme — pitched as building an Irish "third force" challenger. WATR reacquired its Alabama franchise for $4.7m to roll out its wireless monitoring platform. FGP continued its £100m buyback with a £25m third tranche. BOR raised £2m at 11.5p for the Darwin gas condensate asset.
Governance: BRES split Executive Chairman and CEO roles ahead of construction phase (Pearce out, Quinn chairs, Wearing interim CEO); ZPHR FD Chris Eadie departed after 11 years; SDLF lost its Aberdeen-nominated NED after Aberdeen's stake fell to ~5.3%.
Statistical releases
- ONS The impact of elective waiting times on benefits receipt, England: April 2014 to April 2024 — health-economics analytical release linking NHS waits to welfare claims; context for long-run inactivity debate, not a market-moving print.
Policy / monetary
Nothing material from BoE. HMT published Preston earnings/interest factors for September 2026 (employer actuarial inputs), an MOJ Major Projects accounting officer assessment, and routine ONS/UKSA code-of-practice governance notes — all administrative.
Themes
- Guidance dispersion is narrow but tail-risk is specific. Of twelve trading updates, ten reaffirmed and only AOM cut — and that cut is idiosyncratic (single-customer concentration), not cyclical. BEM's administration language is the other tail, also company-specific.
- Infrastructure and regulated utility capex is a visible tailwind. VP. explicitly cites AMP8 water activity and electricity transmission driving H2 confidence — consistent with the UK regulated-capex cycle rather than general demand.
- Consumer resilience via alternative channels. SDG DTC +137% and the Dunelm licence; RFX purchase volumes "strong, supported by both the high gold price" — the strongest consumer-adjacent signals today both lean on specific structural drivers (DTC, gold), not broad discretionary spend.
