Headline
Bellway cuts FY27 completion guidance as affordability bites, while Greencore, Marston's and Oxford Instruments all push estimates higher — a stark consumer housing/consumer staples divergence.
What UK Plc said today
No profit warnings, but the single most material move is BWY guiding FY27 completions to 9,000–9,400 (vs 9,695 delivered) with underlying operating margin set to fall further — management cites mortgage rates above prior-year levels and "wider economic uncertainty" affecting homebuyer decisions. Set against that, three names took numbers up: GNC raised FY26 adjusted operating profit guidance to c.£248m (ahead of previously raised expectations), with Q4 manufactured volume +2.1% vs grocery market +0.5%; MARS now expects underlying PBT above the top of the range after Q4 LFL sales turned "broadly flat"; and OXIG reaffirmed guidance with order intake up nearly 44% and H1 revenue +8% (+9% CC). BYIT upgraded on 17 September remains intact and announced the £19.4m CyberOne acquisition completing late October. WTB held FY guidance despite statutory profit down 62% YoY as it absorbs the branded-restaurant exit (all 197 closed, 173 sites sold). PAGE delivered its first revenue growth quarter since Q4 2022 (+1.5%). On the small-cap side, ANG reaffirmed in-line, IHP saw Transact net inflows of £0.9bn in Q4, and VIC closed FY26 with revenue +11% to c.£344m. Two AIM names flagged going-concern material uncertainties: ABDX and APTA — both revenue-growing but cash-burning, dependent on milestone delivery.

Themes
Consumer dispersion. The clearest signal of the day: housing demand is deteriorating (BWY lowered guidance, cites affordability and mortgage rates) while value-led consumer staples/leisure are accelerating (GNC raised again, MARS above top of range, ANG reaffirmed with +16% MyAD club growth). The split points to constrained but not collapsing household budgets — rotating toward cheap food, local pubs and discretionary low-ticket spend, away from mortgaged big-ticket.
Capital returns and bolt-ons dominate the C-tier. BWY launching £150m buyback despite guide-down; BBY disposing of Gammon for £250m to JAR; BYIT buying CyberOne; LAND topping up Bluewater by 10% for £95m; TBTG opening up to £18.85m rolling buyback; FGP creating £500m distributable reserves. Boards are leaning into balance-sheet-funded returns and focused M&A rather than organic expansion.
AIM funding stress. Two life-sciences small-caps (ABDX, APTA) carrying new/continuing going-concern material-uncertainty language despite revenue growth — a reminder that top-line momentum is not sufficient in a tight AIM funding environment.
