Tesco raises FY guidance and lifts buyback to £950m as grocery momentum broadens, setting a confident tone across UK consumer names TSCO.
What UK Plc said today
No profit warnings in the operating universe. The strongest signal is from TSCO: H1 2026/27 revenue £37.35bn (+3.7%), adjusted operating profit +6.5%, free cash flow +21% to £1.57bn, and FY guidance narrowed upward to £3.15–3.30bn (from £3.0–3.3bn). Buyback raised to £950m and capex guided c.£1.7bn. UK NPS at an all-time high of 33; online +8.4%; Whoosh on track for £500m+. Booker remains the soft spot (LFL -2.6%).
Staples/consumer peers echoed the tone. IMB reaffirmed FY26 guidance with double-digit NGP growth and launched an evergreen buyback up to £1.5bn (first £750m tranche to HSBC from today), signalling confident surplus-capital distribution within a 2.0–2.5x leverage band. UTG reported Q3 LFL income growth of 0.6% and reiterated £300–400m of FY disposals in its university-city repositioning.
Smaller caps leaned ahead: FSG flagged £224m raised into higher-margin retail vehicles with YoY core EBITDA growth; IGP delivered H1 revenue +32.1% to £10.85m with £3.0m of new orders signed since August; MPAL disclosed a single-day record of 2,300+ prescription orders at New Health.
The one soft note: MYX lowered FY26 guidance, citing c.$2m of project delivery slipping into FY27 and $1.0–1.5m of media sales disruption, though it pointed to an $20–22m pipeline across 11 potential awards.

Themes
- Capital-return muscle on display. TSCO lifted its buyback by £200m to £950m; IMB opened an evergreen programme up to £1.5bn; PWR authorised up to $1.0m; ABDN raised £436m from the Standard Life stake sale earmarked partly for shareholder returns. The consumer/financials complex is signalling comfort with surplus capital despite the "geopolitical uncertainty" caveat flagged by TSCO.
- M&A plumbing is busy at the small/mid end. A possible 20p cash offer for LDG from DBAY, Fitch rating-watch-positive for ITH's Suncor Canada acquisition, BNZL's Blueleaf bolt-on, BUC's transformative Ecolibrium deal with £2.9m placing, and FUM's formal sale process point to active sponsor and strategic appetite below the FTSE 100.
- Portfolio pruning narrative. ABDN, INAC (£12m Edengate disposal, 9.2x FY25 EBITDA), JLP (US$35m waste-project disposal), NAH (Searches UK, £1.23m) and SSTY (Holland Park, £3.0m) all shed non-core assets to sharpen focus — a consistent "simplify and recycle capital" thread.
