Headline
Pennon's £550m rights issue and dividend rebase headline a day dominated by capital actions, while Avon Protection and Bridgepoint raise mid-term guidance.
What UK Plc said today
No profit warnings. The most material corporate signal was PNN, which paired a fully underwritten £550m rights issue (220.3m shares at 250p) with a strategic reset: AMP8 capex lifted to £3.6bn (£1bn above the original plan), RCV growth now >40% across AMP8 at a ~7% CAGR, and a dividend rebased to ~£125m (~18p per share, a ~30% underlying cut) under new CEO Keith Haslett. Pennon Power is being sold, with ~£25m recycled into behind-the-meter renewables.
Guidance was raised at the quality end of the universe. AVON now expects FY26 revenue up ~12.5% YoY with adjusted operating margin "comfortably above" the 14–16% range and ROIC "significantly above" 17%, flagging healthy NSPA demand and a materially larger Team Wendy order book. BPT upgraded EBITDA margin guidance to ~60% and lifted medium-term PRE to 25–30% of total income, citing ECP V tracking to a >4x money multiple at end-September. MANO delivered record H1 revenue of £17.4m (+23%) on 161 cases completed, and small-cap AC8 reported RMB 2.1m revenue (+425%) with a new multi-year network expansion target.
Resilient but not stretched: BOWL FY26 revenue £261.6m (+4.3%) with guidance reaffirmed through the UK heatwave; HSW YTD revenue +10% despite Middle East conflict shaving ~4ppt from transaction volumes, FY27 growth now guided to mid-single digits (a trim from prior trajectory). NET delivered FY26 revenue +20% to £57.7m with Cloud ACV +37% and AI products in ~40% of new Cloud sales — a clean read-through on enterprise AI monetisation.
Soft spots sit at the micro end. FLK revenue fell 9.7% to £3.47m with adjusted EBIT collapsing to £22k, the whole board retiring, and a pivot to tech/AI-enabled property services. HEAD completed an administration sale of core assets to LIKE for £14.9m, with no anticipated return to shareholders — LIKE frames the same deal as transformative toward its £300m revenue goal.

Policy / monetary
[BoE] published three sets of FXJSC minutes (Main 24 June; Legal and Operations sub-committees 16 June) alongside a proposal to shift over 100 regulatory thresholds to automatic periodic uprating — a proportionality tailwind for smaller regulated firms. HMT released minutes of the Chancellor's 6 October meeting with Gilt-edged Market Makers and a joint statement from the 4th India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue (29 September); a consumer-facing note confirmed near real-time petrol and diesel prices will appear on Google Maps.
Themes
Capital intensity is being refinanced in equity, not debt. PNN's £550m rights issue, ABDN's 52m-share placing to fund a £210m AT1 redemption, and CMRS's multi-tranche placing all point to boards choosing dilution over leverage into a still-tight credit backdrop.
AI and defence/security are the two sectors where guidance is pushing up, not holding. AVON (protection equipment), BPT (alternatives platform scale), and NET (AI products ~3x prior-year sales, in ~40% of new Cloud wins) are compounding; mid-cap industrials like IMI are bolting on building-automation assets (€63m for Isma Controlli) around the same energy-efficiency thesis.
Geopolitics is now explicit in guidance. HSW quantifies a 4ppt Middle East drag; AIE escalates trade-tariff, US/Iran and AI-uncertainty risk language. The tone is matter-of-fact, not alarmist.
