Headline
UK mid-caps lead with four earnings upgrades and record asset-manager inflows, while IPC confirms DS Smith EMEA packaging spin-off to London.
What UK Plc said today
No profit warnings. The dominant signal is upgrade momentum: VTU raised full-year guidance after H1 FY27 revenue +3.4% to £2,596.5m and adjusted PBT +19.0% to £23.8m, with BEV retail sales +125.6% (vs market 75.9%) and fleet car volumes +30.5% (vs market 8.4%). BOOM guided to adjusted EBITDA of at least US$7.7m on Q3 revenue +17% YoY. DSCV flagged an earnings upgrade on +8% organic H1 growth from industrial electrification, renewable energy and security. RWA expects FY "at least in line" after Q3 net fees returned to +1% (vs H1 -3%).
Asset managers delivered a clean positive print. ASHM AuM rose to US$54.5bn with US$1.1bn of net inflows split equally across fixed income and equities, and gross redemptions at a 15-year quarterly low. TAM AuM/I grew 15.5% to £27.968bn on £1.004bn of inflows, reiterating £200-250m/month guidance for H2.
Mixed notes: CRTA reaffirmed guidance but flagged that larger enterprise opportunities will close over a longer timeframe. DPP saw Poland subdued through July-August before returning to positive LFL in September. Results-stage filings from VTU aside, ALK reported a £1.31m H1 loss but confirmed a £18.3m DRIVE35 grant Offer in Principle for Tees Valley Lithium and binding Glencore offtake; FID remains delayed from Q1 2026. VCT filings from PAIM, PU13, PUAL, TUNE carried no substantive signal.

Policy / monetary
Nothing material from the BoE. HMT announced £17m of funding for repairs to the Chornobyl nuclear plant damaged by Russian drone strike, and appointed Paul Wallek as CEO of the Government Internal Audit Agency — neither market-moving.
Themes
Capital action is dominated by portfolio reshaping, not fresh equity. IPC confirmed the EMEA Packaging spin-off as independently listed DS Smith plc (Tim Nicholls CEO, Vincent Bonnot CFO), with Level II ADRs on NYSE. STAR completed the €1.5m Croatian geothermal disposal to refocus on oil & gas and UK geothermal, releasing €5.2m of restricted cash. KIST added 10% of the Norwegian Balder Area for $12.9m. ORIT agreed a £34.6m UK solar acquisition from OnPath Energy, targeting 9-11% total return and improved dividend cover from FY27. GHH is being acquired by Greenlight Bidco. Only HE1 (£3m helium placing) raised meaningful new cash.
Capital markets days leaned ambitious. KLR set out organic revenue CAGR of 5-7%, ROCE >30%, c.£800m cumulative FCF to 2030. PRV published an FY31 framework (10%+ total revenue growth, 16-18% operating margin, 18%+ ROIC).
ZEV and consumer caution running alongside strength. VTU delivered record H1 numbers while explicitly flagging the ZEV mandate drag (33% cars / 24% vans 2026) and caution on consumer demand from inflation and potential rate rises — a reminder that the automotive upgrade is coming despite, not because of, the policy backdrop.
