UK MACRO BRIEF

2026-10-15

Drawn from 114 UK-listed company filings · 47 material summaries · 11 ONS, 2 BoE, 2 HMT items.

Headline

GDP, production and services data all land today while UK Plc delivers a split tape: multiple upgrades at THG, TPX, CAPD against a subdued build-trade read from TPK.

What UK Plc said today

No profit warnings in today's filings. The strongest signal is a cluster of guidance raises skewed to specialist and digital names: THG lifted FY26 adjusted EBITDA guidance to £103m with Q4 revenue expected to accelerate; TPX raised FY27 revenue guidance to "at least £105m" and EBITDA to "at least £14m" (previously ≥£12m); CAPD lifted 2026 group revenue to $435–455m on MDU consolidation, with Q3 revenue +23.2% to $115.7m. XPS flagged 12% H1 revenue growth tied explicitly to pension surplus-release regulation due April 2027, and JUP said positive client momentum extended into Q4.

The build/consumer read is softer and more mixed. TPK printed Q3 revenue -1.6% citing "subdued" construction output "most notably in new build residential, as macroeconomic uncertainty persists". NXR grew 19% but called out "softer UK demand, particularly in Q2". DNLM (+1.1%) and PROC (+13.2% Q2) both attributed a soft start to the "exceptionally warm" / "record-breaking" summer weather, as did RNK on Mecca venues — a recurring attribution. RNK separately warned any Machine Games Duty rise would trigger "venue closures and job losses". BLND reaffirmed with "double-digit like-for-like net rental income growth"; ENT and MNDI reaffirmed with mixed tone. In results, NWT delivered 21% continuing revenue growth with HCM North America +43%, while SSIT reported NAV per share +102.9% YoY driven by ICEYE (now 53.9% of NAV — flagged as principal concentration risk).

Statistical releases

  • ONS GDP monthly estimate, August 2026 — monthly growth print landing alongside sector detail; context for the "subdued" construction and softer consumer commentary from TPK, NXR and DNLM.
  • ONS Index of Services, August 2026 — services detail relevant to the stronger digital/financial reads from THG, XPS, JUP.
  • ONS Index of Production, August 2026 — production sector read; relevant to MNDI's "rising input costs" comment.
  • ONS Construction output in Great Britain, August 2026 — directly corroborates or challenges TPK's subdued-construction read.
  • ONS UK Trade, August 2026 — balance-of-trade release.
  • ONS Economic activity and social change, real-time indicators, 15 October 2026 — high-frequency companion read.

Policy / monetary

HMT Chancellor John Healey, speaking at the IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok, said "it is my job to protect resilience of the UK economy and the budget will do that" in the face of "international headwinds" — a budget pre-positioning signal. HMT also published the UK Government Green Financing Allocation and Impact Report 2026. [BoE] released David Roberts' CV/questionnaire for the Treasury Select Committee and minutes of the SONIA Stakeholder Advisory Group (25 September) — both procedural, no policy content.

Themes

  • Weather as universal Q2/Q3 alibi: DNLM, PROC and RNK all cited exceptional UK summer heat for soft early-period trading. Watch whether the ONS August services and GDP prints corroborate a weather-driven dip or expose weaker underlying demand.
  • Guidance dispersion by end-market: Upgrades concentrated in specialist/digital/mining services (THG, TPX, CAPD, XPS); building-materials and physical retail reaffirmed or softened (TPK, NXR, DNLM). Consistent with a UK economy where discretionary services outperform construction and homewares.
  • Regulatory tailwinds and threats called out by name: XPS explicitly tied growth to April 2027 surplus-release rules; RNK explicitly warned on Machine Games Duty ahead of the budget — a direct feed into HMT's "resilience" framing.

Watch

  • HVPE investor presentation 2 November 2026 (semi-annual results).
  • MRC portfolio manager handover: Anthony Lynch steps down 31 October 2026; Manny Hajra joins 1 November 2026.
  • MEX/Tortilla placing settlement around 20 October 2026; PRD, BPT, CRTX admissions around 20 October 2026; MFAI placing admission around 27 October 2026.
  • ANTO Heather Lawrence takes Senior Independent Director role effective 1 November 2026.
  • FHP targeting AIM admission early November 2026 subject to RTO completion — material going-concern uncertainty flagged.
