Headline
No profit warnings, three small/mid-cap guidance upgrades and Shell's completed $16.5bn Canadian gas deal define a constructive UK session.
What UK Plc said today
Guidance is moving up, not down. MOTR lifted FY27 PBT guidance to £9.8m–£10.8m (30–44% growth), above consensus of £9.1m–£10.0m, citing stronger volumes and favourable supply. RGG told the market FY26 revenue will be "materially above" expectations, targeting >£14m revenue and >£4m net profit after H1 revenue jumped 472% YoY to £8.45m on 174% higher applications. TTG — nominally a results filing — raised the same message: FY26 adjusted operating profit "ahead of current market expectations" (consensus £35.0m), with a group book-to-bill of 112%, Power at 114% and new Rolls-Royce and MBDA wins underpinning Aerospace & Defence demand. TST was more measured, guiding H2 slightly softer than H1 but flagging a smaller-than-expected FY loss and 2027 return to profitability.
M&A did the heavy lifting. SHEL completed its acquisition of ARC Resources at ~US$13.9bn equity / US$16.5bn EV, adding 370 kboe/d in Canada's Montney basin and lifting Shell's targeted production CAGR to ~4% through 2030. HLMA paid $170m up-front (plus up to $30m earn-out) for water-quality specialist Pyxis, funded from existing facilities. BOY suspended its £80m buyback (£17.5m spent) in response to a recommended cash offer from Veritas Capital. DCC confirmed no increase to its 6,525p base cash offer from Dragon Bidco (ECP/KKR), scheme meeting 18 September. PRU continues to grind through a US$1.47bn buyback via J.P. Morgan.
Results elsewhere were solid. ECOR posted H1 revenue of $32.0m (+102% YoY) with net debt down to $74.9m from $124.6m a year ago on the back of Voisey's Bay cobalt volumes (266t vs 140t) and a $28.4/lb realised cobalt price. KLSO reported NAV per share +43% YTD on a UK small-cap activist book. CMPG/CMPI delivered ~+23–25% NAV total returns and moved to monthly dividends from FY28.

Themes
Small and mid-cap operational momentum is broadening: MOTR, RGG and TTG each pushed guidance higher on genuine demand, not one-off effects, and KLSO's +43% NAV YTD implies bid activity is being rewarded in the UK small-cap tape. Against that, TST and GRID (H1 revenue per operational MW down on weaker merchant power) show the recovery is uneven — battery storage economics and discretionary B2B spend remain soft. Capital-return and take-private pressure keeps building at the top of the market: SHEL paying in stock and cash for scale, BOY and DCC under recommended bids, PRU and HLMA absorbing cash into buybacks and bolt-ons.
