Headline

UK Plc trading is uneven — Renishaw and JD Sports pace ahead while Nexus Infrastructure cuts and AI-linked names flag July's dislocation as a live risk.

What UK Plc said today

No profit warnings landed, but NEXS downgraded FY26 guidance to ~£70m revenue and a ~£1.0m pre-tax loss, citing slower H2 conversion of secured work. DBOX also lowered — Meta algorithm changes hit its creator network, and full-year adjusted EBITDA margin is now guided to ~8%. ZIN held its £38m/£1.4m EBITDA line but shifted £7m of production from FY26 into FY27, blaming Iran-war disruption.

Against that, the strongest concrete positive came from RSW: FY26 revenue £815.8m (+14%), adjusted EPS 179.5p (+30%), a 70p special interim dividend, and FY27 said to have "started strongly" on semiconductor equipment demand. ASY raised — H1 revenue £40.9m (+7.7%), full year now "materially ahead of 2025", with UK air-con revenues up ~40% on extreme weather. JD. held guidance (PBTAI £700–800m) despite LFL -2.8%, and launched a second £100m buyback. BOKU reaffirmed on +11% organic and extended its buyback. AURR, ING and KOO all reaffirmed with margin or cash improvements.

M&A remained the busiest tier. AT. disclosed a fourth, unsolicited 615p cash approach from Ember Infrastructure, with a PUSU deadline of 21 October. PHAR shareholders approved the Ratio Petroleum scheme after Serica's counter-offer lapsed. BEZ had its Zurich scheme sanctioned by the Court. FOXT bought four regional lettings businesses for up to £6.0m; BTG, GFIN and MHA added smaller bolt-ons; BYG disposed of Bracknell Industrial Estate for £6.3m to refocus on self-storage.

Statistical releases

  • ONS Weekly deaths in England and Wales, w/e 11 September 2026 — provisional mortality update, no policy read-across.
  • ONS Divorces and dissolutions, England and Wales, 2024–2025 — demographic release, not market-moving.
  • ONS Regional GDP, UK 1998–2024 — backward-looking regional activity data; useful context for regional exposure but no fresh cyclical signal.

Policy / monetary

Nothing material from BoE or HMT.

Themes

AI dispersion is now bifurcated. MNL disclosed a ~25% NAV drawdown between 22 June and 29 July as the Morgan Stanley Broad AI basket fell 30% in 26 days — a concrete, dated example of leverage and crowded positioning turning fast. Yet CORD says AI-driven demand exceeds available capital, PINT is leaning into digital infrastructure, and NBPE committed $164m YTD including three AI-themed growth deals. The signal: AI-receivers with contracted revenue keep compounding; AI-price-takers reprice violently.

Geopolitics is showing up in P&Ls, not just risk sections. ZIN moved £7m of revenue to FY27 explicitly citing the Iran war; ASY's Middle East revenue fell 28.8% with a £1.0m bad-debt hit; JDG flagged Iran escalation risk; PINT and SEC both elevated geopolitical language.

Investment trust discounts are drawing action. BASC (Strategic Review, tender trigger), SEC (22% tender completed), BGCG (buybacks enhancing NAV TR by 0.5%) and NBPE ($240m returned since 2025 at 28% discount) all point to boards using capital to close persistent gaps rather than wait for sentiment.
