Headline
No profit warnings but a downgrade at CRW and a mixed trading update at AXS show demand fragility persists, even as AI-linked earners power on.
What UK Plc said today
The clearest guidance cut came from CRW, which reset FY27 revenue expectations down to the equivalent of ARR (~$185m) and initiated a cost review, citing 340B market headwinds and disclosing a post-year-end cyber incident (20 July) involving unauthorised access and data exfiltration. AXS issued a new, mixed statement: revenue –6% YoY over the five months to 31 August, blamed on Middle East conflict, inflation and delayed project activity, though adjusted EBITDA is guided to €21–23m, ahead of prior year on margin improvement. AAZ partially trimmed FY guidance, cutting gold to 26,000–30,000 oz (from 28,000–33,000) on weaker Gilar recoveries, while maintaining copper output and lowering copper AISC to $6,000–7,000/t; H1 revenue +245% to $141.2m with a $57.7m net cash position.
Reaffirmations dominated the results tape. IOF delivered H1 adjusted EBITDA +103% on revenue +7%, swinging to $7.2m net cash. ELIX posted revenue +25% and AI-linked revenue +185% to £8.1m, EBITDA margin up to 31%. BMTO held guidance but flagged slower global sales growth ahead, plastic resin inflation from Middle East supply-chain effects, and US tariffs adding 10% to imports. B90, GTC and NCYF all reiterated in-line expectations. MFX posted record loan book £422.9m but PBT fell to £3.4m from £4.1m, with £1.5m motor finance redress provision maintained pending court ruling.
Capital actions were housekeeping: placings/issues at MPAL (£5m at 5p to fund GLP-1 dispensing capacity), BRAI, OIT, ATN; small disposals at HAMA and UTL; Rule 2.9 filings from AMS and DNM indicating live offer periods. Board changes at RMV, FSJ, SFOR and ULTP.
Statistical releases
- ONS published "Measuring Artificial Intelligence in the UK Economy using a thematic account" (09:30) — timely given the AI revenue signal at ELIX and cross-company AI investment references at B90 and MFX.
Policy / monetary
[BoE] announced new long-term premises in Leeds, reinforcing its regional expansion commitment. [BoE] also released the Foreign Currency Reserves 2026 Market Notice. Nothing material from HMT.
Themes
Geopolitics is the most consistently cited external headwind. AXS, BMTO, NCYF and IOF all reference Middle East / US-Iran conflict, though impact is uneven — IOF calls its exposure "relatively minimal" while AXS blames it directly for slower revenue.
Guidance dispersion is widening within a single tape: CRW cut, AAZ partial cut, AXS new mixed, versus reaffirmations at ELIX, IOF, B90, GTC, NCYF and BMTO. The reaffirmers are disproportionately those with recurring-revenue or commodity-price tailwinds; the cutters share exposure to discretionary enterprise spend or regulatory transition.
AI as a revenue line — not just cost — is now concrete: ELIX reports £8.1m AI-linked revenue (+185%), and the ONS thematic account provides a policy backdrop. B90 and MFX cite AI deployment but as operating leverage, not top line.
Cyber security has moved from generic risk-factor language to a live P&L item at CRW, with financial consequences yet to be quantified.
