UK retail sales and mortgage data land alongside a thin corporate tape dominated by Taboola's £19m bid for Dianomi and Ferrexpo's £500m distributable-reserve creation.
What UK Plc said today
No profit warnings in the operating universe. The most material corporate signal is M&A: Taboola is bidding 64p cash plus a contingent unit worth up to 24p for Dianomi DNM, valuing the finance/business ad-tech specialist at £19m (up to £27m fully diluted), with the scheme targeted to complete before year-end. Reconstruction Capital RCN closed its £124.9m disposal to Stellanor Datacenters, and Ferrexpo FGP secured court confirmation of a capital reduction creating £500m of distributable reserves to support future dividends and buybacks — a notable capital-returns signal from a stock where distribution capacity has been constrained.
Trading updates skewed constructive. Investec INVP reaffirmed H1 2027 guidance, citing higher average advances and positive net inflows in discretionary and annuity funds, partially offset by lower average rates. Recruitment/defence-adjacent RC Fornax RCFX flagged FY26 revenue of c.£5.2m (+26.8% YoY) and entered FY27 with c.£8.4m of secured/anticipated revenue after a £4.0m government award, though it acknowledged "further contract delays related to uncertainty surrounding UK's overall defence strategy and capital allocation." Hurricane Group HUD pointed to c.£100k weekly sales from early Whatnot/TikTok testing. Tekcapital TEK amplified the AI power-constraint thesis via portfoliocompany Vesari: "the constraint on artificial intelligence infrastructure today is firm, clean power delivered where the compute sits."
On the resource side, Savannah Resources SAV delivered a Phase 1 DFS on its Portuguese lithium project (post-tax NPV₈ US$913m, IRR 43.2%, 14-year life, AISC US$646/t) backed by a €110m Portuguese State grant and EU Strategic Project status — but flagged a going-concern material uncertainty, with additional funding required in Q1 2027. Abrdn Property Income API is in managed wind-down with the board weighing voluntary delisting given c.£750k annual recurring costs against a single remaining asset (Far Ralia, valued £6.05m) and no visibility on a sale.

Policy / monetary
[BoE] published minutes of the Transaction and Post-trade Reporting Harmonisation Taskforce (July 2026) — plumbing work on UK MiFIR/EMIR/SFTR reporting harmonisation, no rate-setting content. HMT released the Whole of Government Accounts 2024-25 (relevant for fiscal-position framing), opened the UK's 250th banking hub in Chepstow, and published its August workforce data. Nothing rate-sensitive.
Themes
- Capital returns vs capital raises bifurcation: FGP engineered £500m of distributable reserves and RCN banked £124.9m in disposal proceeds, while TAP, SMIF, NCYF and RRR tapped equity markets in small placings — the larger caps are recycling capital back, the small caps are still funding themselves.
- Board refresh for the next phase: SVT, DEBS, AEX and ROR all announced non-executive changes framed around specific forward agendas — capital investment delivery at Severn Trent, equity-value rebuild at Debenhams, upstream development at Aminex. Read as governance positioning ahead of execution phases, not distress.
- AI-power scarcity narrative persists: TEK's Vesari commentary echoes a recurring line across the tape — the AI bottleneck has shifted from silicon to grid.
