Headline
No profit warnings, but guidance splits sharply: HVO cuts FY revenue while EVPL upgrades; ONS drops six labour releases and HMT launches £500m AML push.
What UK Plc said today
Among 27 results filings, one guidance cut and one raise defined the tape. HVO lowered FY 2026 revenue to ~£47m and now guides a low single-digit adjusted EBITDA loss, citing customer study deferrals into 2027–28; the offset is a contracted orderbook doubling to £65m. EVPL moved the other way, guiding FY revenue and adjusted EBITDA "materially ahead" on record launches of Hell Let Loose: Vietnam and Wardogs (1m+ day-one sales, 400,000+ peak concurrent).
Oil and metals producers dominated on price leverage. AET revenue +75% on a $91.3/bbl realised price with a fresh $125m Gunvor facility; KIST revenue +141% pro forma, unit opex nearly halved to $17/boe, Oman Blocks 3 & 4 closed today; SLP revenue +117% and EBITDA +289% on a record 4E PGM basket of $2,404/oz (+60%). The common thread is pricing and discipline, not new volume.
Housebuilder dispersion is stark. GLE cut its full-year dividend to 5.0p from 11.0p, took a £4.5m land impairment and flagged continued subdued conditions. SPR moved to £1.2m net cash from £20.9m net debt, raised its dividend 50% to 3.0p and initiated a buyback. Same market, opposite capital signals.
Consumer read-across: WIX said Q3 retail LFL has stepped up to mid-single-digit growth, an acceleration from H1's +2.1% top line. BOW posted +5.6% H1 LFL (+8.5% in the summer) but cited April's National Minimum Wage rise and the Employment Rights Act as active margin pressures, and closed three sites.
M&A activity was heavy: GSK announced a T-cell engager deal with Chimagen worth up to $750m for multiple myeloma; ELCO disclosed a recommended 235p cash offer from Avocet Bidco; KIST closed Oman Blocks 3 & 4 (~$148m, $5.80/boe of 2P); AMCO realised 28× on its Premier Limpet disposal (£10.1m); BHL entered uranium via a $1.8m Zeus/US1 deal.
Statistical releases
- ONS published six labour market releases in a single 07:00 drop: UK Labour Market September 2026, PAYE RTI Earnings and Employment, Regional Labour Market, Public Sector Employment (June 2026 and time series), and the labour market time series. It is the month's main labour data event.
Policy / monetary
- HMT announced a £500m Anti-Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Strategy, funding 500 new officers — an enforcement signal, not a policy shift.
- [BoE] published Statistical Notice 2026/08 on monthly form BT reporting criteria and March 2026 Securities Lending Committee minutes; both procedural.
Themes
- Commodity price leverage is doing the earnings work: AET, KIST and SLP all posted triple-digit revenue growth on modest volume moves, driven by realised prices. Cash return capacity for producers this cycle should extend well beyond the majors.
- Buyback preference is persistent among cash-generative small/mid caps today: SLP launched $1.5m, RMMC extended £2m, LSL is deploying a £12m authority, PRN approved 6.2m shares, SPR initiated, EYE sold treasury. Choice of buybacks over M&A in aggregate.
- Labour cost language is escalating below the surface: BOW explicit on NMW and Employment Rights Act; GLE, ALU, MPAC weave cost inflation into restructuring narratives — worth tracking against today's ONS earnings print.
- Board turnover was unusually dense — AIRE, BPCP, CCEP, DIS, DPA, TRST plus CEO/CFO transitions at ALU, DPP, EKF, HVO, LEND, CLIG. Not a coherent signal, but the count is notable.
