2026-06-17

Drawn from 114 UK-listed company filings · 42 material summaries · 7 ONS, 2 BoE, 5 HMT items.

Headline

UK CPI and PPI for May land alongside a clutch of investment-trust results and a transformative ReSI/SOHO senior-living tie-up, with no profit warnings on the tape.

What UK Plc said today

No profit warnings. The strongest concrete signal is upgraded guidance from PZC, which now expects FY26 adjusted operating profit "at, or slightly above, the upper end" of its £53–57m range on c.£540m revenue (+6%). HSP flagged FY26 revenue ahead of expectations (PBT in line), citing HS2 and Sizewell C activity, while TND is tracking 2% ahead with bikes +8%, and [80M] confirmed Disko drilling for early July.

In results, AO. delivered a record £50.5m adjusted operating profit, swung to £16.4m net funds and announced a £20m shareholder return (£10m special dividend + £10m buyback), reaffirming FY27 PBT in line with expectations. CGS guided forward order schedules +5–10% after a post period-end power disruption at William Lee, now resolved. CML swung to an adjusted operating loss of £1.93m on revenue -10.7%, but flagged a >$30m, 12-year GNSS contract and expects a return to revenue growth in FY27. FEN is being taken private by Irwell with court hearing on 6 July.

The standout warning sign is SDY — Speedy Hire — flagging "material going concern uncertainty" with leverage at 3.3x (vs 1.9x), a £159m net debt position and dividend rebased to 1.00p from 2.60p, despite reaffirming FY27 consensus. TIR is post-pivot into crypto/Bittensor with a reverse takeover under discussion.

Policy / monetary

HMT published its June Forecasts for the UK economy comparison, launched the UK-India Double Contributions Convention explainer, set out duty suspensions/autonomous tariff quotas, and confirmed major leisure/hospitality firms passing on the "Great British Summer Savings" VAT cut. HMT also imposed its largest financial-sanctions penalty since the 2022 Russia invasion.

Themes

Geopolitics is now a recurring risk line. Middle East conflict is explicitly flagged in risk language at CCJI, HHV, PNL, WSP and CGS (commodity/energy pricing risk increased). WSP is the most pointed: inflation "now forecast to increase over the remainder of the calendar year and leading to the prospect of rising, rather than falling, interest rates" — worth holding next to today's ONS CPI/PPI prints.

Capital returns vs balance-sheet strain bifurcation. AO. (£20m return), OMG (£10m buyback completed), RAT (up to £20m buyback) and CML (dividend maintained) sit on one side; SDY going-concern flag and rebased dividend on the other. Tone divergence is real, not cosmetic.

Living-sector consolidation. RESI/SOHO is transformative on both sides — £108.3m headline, SOHO's portfolio expanding 5.5x to 2,690 units, ReSI shareholders getting cash plus SOHO paper. Sector watchers should treat this as a template.
